Well I took the liberty yesterday of emailing Nintendo, I didnt really think I would get a response, not to mention quite a lengthy one. However here it is, it doesnt discuss much about online but more or less DOESNT rule it out either, the only thing that bothers me is the talk of them working on the new console. I truly believe if they get a online system running for GC it more then keep people occupied for another 5+ years.
"Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo, It is true that Nintendo is working on its next generation hardware system. While we haven't confirmed a launch date at this time, we're prepared to release this new system at the same time, if not before our competitors release their next generation consoles. As new details are revealed, you can be sure that you'll see them first at www.nintendo.com or in Nintendo Power Magazine. Although I am not sure where the images you sent came from, I can tell you that they are not official. As you know, there are countless web sites on the Internet that post Nintendo news and information. Many of these independent web sites take the liberty of posting news based on rumors, speculation, or assumptions--and that is just fine. We understand that Nintendo fans are eager for as much new information as possible! However, as a publicly traded company in Japan, Nintendo has a responsibility to those who rely on us as a manufacturer (retailers, suppliers, employees, stockholders, etc.) to be the most accurate source of information on the latest Nintendo products. Only when information is official can we comment on it. Therefore, the information fans will see on our official web site will always be confirmed, reliable information from official Nintendo sources and press releases. Although officially confirmed information can still change from time to time (like product release dates), Nintendo's own web sites will be the most current official source for all Nintendo news and information. On Nintendo.com, we also strive to provide as much information as possible on upcoming games and accessories that are made by other companies and licensed for use with our systems. However, because these products are not produced or sold by Nintendo, we may not have all of the latest details. In these cases, we recommend that fans visit the web site for the actual company who produces the product in question, or contact them directly for the latest news. Your feedback about the future of online gaming is important to us, and we appreciate your taking the time to email us. Please note that once E3 is happening, we will post all of the latest details from it at www.nintendo.com. Nintendo of America Inc. Sharon Matheny" |

Wow....we may ACTUALLY see a change in Nintendo's way of handling things..A good way to start off is by actually replying to an e-mail...

I am amazed that they responded in such a professional manner. Good job for them.

Yeah, at least they actually responded, but I still don't know about the online deal. I hope it's true since Nintendo has been playing up their new peripherals that will be unveiled at E3.

I still say you dont make a BBA for literally one or two online titles. There has to be more, and I will say again I would MUCH rather have cube around for a long time with some online business instead of ANOTHER new damn console.
I think the problem is Nintendo thinks "well we are going to do it right for the next console, we are going to release it the right way this time etc etc etc" which is stupid, they think a NEW system will spark peoples interest again when literally all cube owners love it but just want some damn online, how are they so blind and deaf. And this connectivity bullshit is so fuckin lame, get over it already, most of your audience werent 5 year olds but your practically forcing that lame shit down our throats. |

I know what you mean. I like for consoles to have long life spans so that developers can fully master the system. Right now it seems like the GCN is just getting into full swing, and the info on the new systems is overshadowing this surge in high quality games. I say they need to put off new consoles for a little while.

They should try out the online stuff in the CURRENT generation to see how gamers will react, not wait another year or two. They should get their feet wet and see what it takes to make it work. It worked great for Sony and M$, they currently have tons of online games. |
