A new puzzle game is coming to the gamecube and will have online rankings. At the moment we are not sure if the game will connect to the internet through the console, or just going to a web browser and typing in the password. Sticky Balls is played on a table with a variety of different colored balls. Balls are shot at sending them in motion. If a ball touches one of the same color/design they will become stuck together as a cluster. When 7 are connected, they will be removed resulting in a high score bonus.

Here is all the detailed information for the online scoring method.
----
We’ve developed a system whereby hi scores from any version of the Sticky Balls game running on a platform with an internet connection supporting HTTP can submit hi scores to a central server, where they are sorted and displayed on webpages.

The aim is to create a central database of the best hi scores displayed on the web to stimulate interest in Sticky Balls, adding and extra dimension to the game by encouraging competition between players to rewarding repeated play and mastery of the game.

Individual hi scores are sent at the request of the user, along with addition identifying information about player's name, game type, platform etc., to a hi score manager on the Sticky Balls website. Here the scores are archived, and added to the appropriate hi score tables for website display. The script reports back to the client if the hi score was high enough to be accepted, and any other up to date information (announcements of new products etc) we wish to add.

The system is designed to be very simple, with the actual coded interaction between the client and the server as simple as possible. Our intention is to make a system that is expandable and extendible on the server side, without requiring updates to the client. The information exchanged is limited to text only, and is designed to be compatible with the widest range of client platforms.

The updated hi score tables are not sent to or displayed by the client; they can only be viewed by browsing the website. This is to avoid the client ever showing an out of date hi score table, to reduce the amount of data which needs to be transferred, and to allow us to continue to modify and change the hi score management system after the client software has been released without the need to update the client.

We are implementing a Prize system, whereby Sticky Balls merchandise will be given to the top players on each hi score table at the end of the month.

The website will also support message boards, feedback systems, tips and ‘how to play’ information, downloads and patches as well as details of other Sticky Balls product releases.

This system is already developed and in place, awaiting the first release of the game.

to stimulate interest in Sticky Balls

oh man... Laughing

you know, even after reading up on it, i'm still fuzzy on how it plays, it sounds sorta like bust-a-move. it may not have online play, but ranking systems work great for puzzle games, so i don't mind.... sticky balls... Very Happy

It sounds like it will use the system itself to post the scores (as opposed to a password system)

If so, that's awesome. It also sounds like it'll allow you to view the hi-scores on your console, so, the next logical question is, will one be able to access forums through this system, to communicate with the other players? Even if it isn't a fully online game, this is still pretty cool.

Puzzle games are great time-killers and this should be no exception. I hope this turns out as well as Baku Baku (Saturn).
