Well, that's basically what happens, but it's a lot more involved than that.
*spoilers, kinda (not that the story in PSO matters)* Well, Rico is investigating Ragol's surface and happens to find a few things out of place. The government is lying to the people and is conducting experiments on the local wildlife. In addition, there is an enormous mining operation going on right beneath the settlers' feet. Rico discovers more and more of the true nature of the government's plans. However, when she reaches the Ruins, she becomes frightened and feels the looming presence of Falz. Falz is only a spirit until she arrives and he/she/it assumes control of Rico's body. So in essence, the player ends up destroying Rico's body after Falz has already possessed her and devoured her soul (note the image of Rico escaping when the final form of Dark Falz is destroyed, this symbolixes that her soul has been freed from Dark Falz's control). That's my interpretation of Episode 1anyways. As for Episode 2, it's really just a huge extension of the Calus Artificial Intelligence subquest in Episode 1. First, you must pass a series of virtual reality tests so that the Lab knows you are a more than capable hunter. Next, you investigate Gal Da Val Island where a distress signal has been located. Here you begin to read some of the Pioneer One secret research files. Gal Da Val leads into the seabed where some very disturbing tests have taken place. In an attempt to create a controllable superbeing, the DNA from a dark being (presumably Dark Falz though I'm not sure here) was fused into the body of one of the greatest Pioneer 1 military heroes, Heathcliff Flowen (the man whose name is engraved on the red weapons and who also has a sword and shield named after him). Flowen is reluctantly subjected to the tests, and his human soul is gradually weakened until he ultimately loses control and is transformed into Dark Flow, the final boss of Episode 2. Episode 3 takes place 22 years (I think) after Episode 2 and the main character has become a commander ho deploys hunters to various regions of Ragol when situations arise. I haven't completed that game yet, so I'm not yet sure about the entire storyline. However, I do know that Principal Tyrell has been removed from his position as leader of Pioneer 2 and has been replaced by a much more stubborn and malintentioned individual. Two battling factions of hunters have emerged: the government sponsored Hunters and the rogue Arks. You can choose to work for either faction and I believe that Tyrell commands the Arks which leads me to believe that the government of Pioneer 2 is just as sinister and distorted as the one present on Pioneer 1. I don't know too much more about Episode 3's story, but I do know the Episode 3 storyline is much more structured since you command set characters with their own inherent personalities. The storyboards are beautiful and do a good job of relaying the story to the player, but I unfortunately haven't gotten the chance to see too many of them. Well, I hope that answers most of your questions. |
