I don't play online but someone test this to see if its true.>>>
FSOD is very much a part of the reason why Phantasy Star Online is not half as popular as it used to be. Hackers created AR codes that caused players' games to crash, they would lose all of their items in their pack, and sometimes even delete the save file or the whole memory card. FSOD is created by a packet send to your GCN. The packet can be sent through the item "????", the W/S packet, various proxies, and other various ways I won't release the names of. This packet, causes your BGM's pitch and speed to go off of the scale. This is what causes the BZZZZ sound. The BZZZZ sound is what crashes your GCN. The GCN crashes your game, and at certain times, can crash your memory card. The reason why the BZZZZ sound crashes everything? The system can't process that much data at one time. Don't believe me? Try it yourself with your PC. Download a program like WavePad, open your favorite song, and look at the task bar on the top of the screen. Look for Effects, then look for Simple and Pitch Change. Click on Preview, and delete where it says 100. Put the number 9 into that box over and over, and watch what happens. The whole point of this post? I'm about to say how to fix all of this FSOD mess. The GCN has RAM that the game is held on. Yes, the room you are in and the textures, polygons, etc. are that small. What isn't held on the RAM, but is needed to complete the game? The BGM. Try this yourself too. Open your GCN disc lid, take out the disc, and close it and open it over and over. The room you are in still runs, text works, everything works. What isn't playing? The BGM. What is needed to run? The BGM. So, if you can disable the BGM, there would be no problem. The BGM couldn't crash the GCN, so there would be no FSOD. |

thats all fine and well, but now millions of people will create duped/hacked items and give them to unsuspecting noobs and increase the CHEATING aspect wich killed the DC version and is on the way to kill the GC. In my opinion, if there is no recourse for duping/hacking (such as FOSOD), cheating increases because now people can get around it.
On the other hand, this is good to know if you got a duped item unknowingly... but in times like this were dups/hacks are everywhere, nikon said it best, "its best to hunt for your items and not take the chance"! |

For starters I just want to say that cheating has not effected GameCube nearly as much as the DC. People stop paying their hunters liscense because they either:
A.) Move onto another game B.) Arn't playing as much online lately so decided to save money, but will renew if a friend is actively playing There are a ton of Legit players on GC PSO, and in all honestly, its not that hard to find them if you try. You CAN sign online right now and find a legit game to play in. Yes there is duping, FSOD, and lobby spamming that is going on. However its not scaring off legit players like it did in the old days. I do agree that this does have some effect on the online environment, but not nearly as bad as it did in the DC days. ----- Getting more on topic with this thread, taking OUT the disc from the gamecube is not a wise decision. If you want a serious fix to this solution, there is supposedly an application you can run on your PC that will block off those packets that are harmfull. So players won't be able to FSOD you. McRingRing has been testing this application for sometime now. I have been waiting to put more documentation up on the site about it until I speak with ringring further about it. (RingRIng if your out there drop me a pm hehe) Even still, I have only been FSOD one time in all my years playing GC PSO. |

Thats a awsome idea but that sollution sounds like its only for those who has a broadband adapter/router. |

Actually you would not need a router, but instead need to setup your GC with a BBA running through a PC via Internet Connection Sharing.
Kidvid have you had a lot of nasty experiences online for the GC? or are you simply making this thread in relation to past experiences from Dreamcast PSO? |

The odds of you getting FSOD are remote if you play it safe. Just don't idle for extremly long periods of time in extremly full lobbies. Go into a lobby go to the front desk and check for any open legit games, or make a game called "legits only".
You probobly could even chat and hang around and be ok. But if you want to really play it safe just chat in less populated blocks / lobbies. I have gotten FSOD one time in my entire time playing PSO. Which was a long long time ago, almost a year and a half ago that I got FSOD. And I didn't even lose any items. Just make sure you put all your items in the check room. You can lose whatever items you have on your char that are being carried but unequiped. Other than that nothing else will happen. Getting your char save corrupted is a rare case. It does happen but, not like it does on the Dreamcast. You can put in 2000 hours of play in PSO and get FSOD many times and not get corrupted. Plus you can back up extra items you have to another memory card since you can sort your items offline. Honestly you have no reason to be afraid, just play it safe when online and don't congregate in areas where there are a lot of "immature" sounding noisy idiots. FSOD'rs are usually 12 year olds looking for attention. |
