I was wondering, does Warp Pipe still work? I downloaded it today, and at first glance it seems that it should run independently, but then again, it seems also like it would need a server to connect through. They don't update nor work on Warp Pipe any more since it was cancelled a long time ago, but I'd be interested to know if it still works. Anyone know/be willing to try?

Later builds of warp pipe hooked into an online service, which has probobly been terminated by now. Early builds were independent. However, with XLINK, which is far far better, warp pipe is sort of a null issue.

Warp Pipe was one of the first tunneling applications for the GameCube. It started out as an open source project, but then the developers (in college) started getting the notion that their network stack could be used for commercial purposes. The software went from open and decentralized, to centralized, to proprietary, to eventually not working as the people involved in the project became disillusioned with the potential for money making ventures.
XLink came alone and superceded Warp Pipe, though... XLink is not decentralized. |
