i got a cable modem and a wireless router in my bros room. hes got a desktop so the modem is not moving. i want to hook my gamecube up. is there a way to avoid having to purchase a wireless networkbridge, buying another cable modem, or have a long cord running down the hall to my bros room? i do have a laptop in my room with a wireless network card therefor meaning i have a free ethernet port! is there a way, any way that i could share that connection with my gamecube? is it gonna be a pain to hook up like when my DC dialed into my computer? or is the way a gc is set up makes sharing this connection easy? any ideas or attemps to make this happen? ill respect all ideas. Question

The cheapest and about only way to do it is to buy another NIC card for you computer. A non wireless one. By default the GC looks for a DHCP server. IE, you don't have to set up anything on the GC if you set your computer to do DHCP. If this is over your head no worries lol

Hmmm. Ok lemme rewrite this lol I think I understand now... You have a normal network card IE ethernet port on the laptop and also a wireless notebook card that has internet access from the router correct?

If so then I think you can just turn on internet connection sharing and plug your GC into the laptop and it'll act as an 8lb bridge he he. If you are on WinXP open the Network Connections and right click the wired connection (local area connetion, 2 or something like that.) then click properties. Click client for microsoft networks (default) click the advanced tab. Second checkbox down says allow others to use this comutpers... connection check that and it should work. Make sure you enable the second NIC if it is disabled just right click the icon and click enable.

Other than that you have to buy a $100 or more bridge. (going by linksys that is) I called the tech people and tried everything but that was my only option. At the time I did not have a computer. Plus sometimes having 2 NIC's running gets hairy he he.

Yea frokid your right, notice where Nester corrects himself in mid-thought. Just basically follow the instructions he lists there for setting it up in winXP (if this is indeed what your running.)

The only thing that kinda puzzles me is, if you need a standard ethernet cable, or a crossover cable, which is slightly different. Nester which would work? Would standard ethernet work with frokid879's setup?

You are right nikon. i totally forgot about that and was confused as well. So I just asked my networking friend he he. He said you need a crossover cable which is the same as a normal cable but they switch the transmit/recieve wires.

I dunno what hubs run now days but if you are looking at sharing that laptop connection with more than one GC or more than one device (you could use the DC as well) you could get a cheap 4 port hub or 8 port and just plug the cable from the laptop into the hub and then run cables to other things.

I use the bridge attached to an old 8 port hub that runs my PC, GC and sometimes my friends GC's. Hmmmm you know what? I just thought of something that never crossed my mind before. WIth the GBPlayer why can't we have online gameboy games? It'd be easy to just use that and play online with our GC's. Online Pokemon battles!! It'd be about time. I think they have some GB cell phone thingy over in Japan that gets online to play games but I don't think that's ever coming here. I mean GB data should use even less than PSO!! Which btw is around 1KB/s I was shocked when we ran 3 DC's off one dialup line and had virtually no lag. That's some insane good coding.

i also came across this, but is still alot. a 70 buck bridge wireless b (what i got) made for gaming and says it will work with gamecube. but then i think 70 bucks is alot to have no cord. but w/e, id rather do the comp bridg.

I have never tested this frokid, it should work. If you have a laptop on the internet via wireless, and a secondary ethernet port on your laptop it will work as a network bridge. You jsut have to get a crossover cable and set up internet connection sharing. Just like the process AOL broadband users need to get their pso's online.

Check this thread on this exact same subject in another post in the support forum here:
http://gamecube.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=879#879

Has step by step instructions. basically you have to do the same thing as whats listed in the post above.
