We need more information: Are you using a router? Are you plugging your cable modem directly into your BBA? Who's your ISP? What're your network settings set to? etc. etc.

And if nintendo didn't understand the internet, why do they have a website? I think it may be you who doesn't understand the internet =P

sorry I was a bit vague. I didnt have much time. but i wanted to get across that I had a problem and hoped someone would reply. Ok so anyways. I am plugged directly into my DSL modem via ethernet cable(not crossover). My provider is SBCglobal. The network settings on the BBA are set to automatic. Though I have manually entered all the info into it adn I still get the same error. Though sometimes It does connect me but then doesnt send or recieve any more information. Like I will connect but not get the ship select list. any ideas? I will soon buy a router though, i need one. will this router do what i need. http://shop4.outpost.com/product/3711296

That looks like it'll do everything you need it to.

Hm.. oh! I think i figured it out: Most Cable modems and DSL modems need to be "reset" when you connect them to a new device. Unplug the DSL modem from the wall for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in. It probably still has your PC in memory.

Hey wow thanks that worked. Sometimes though I randomly get kicked off and cant reconnect with the same problem. Or it just stops sending information back and forth. I dunno why this keeps happening. It never did with any PC or Xbox i hook up to it.

If you get kicked off like that, probablly is the server, they've been having troubles lately

Well i keep looking into it and I believe it is my firewall on my "two wire portal" DSL modem. I have gone through 100000 things and cant figure out how to shut it off. im about to go crazy with this. when I "lag out" or whatever, im still sending info. I look at my friends GC which was also connected to the net and my character still moved/attacked/and spoke. but yet i wasent recieving info. anyone here use SBCglobal DSL and the "two wire portal"
